SUUSI Life

A shared experience

SUUSI is a week-long, intentional Unitarian Universalist community hosted on a university campus. We live together in dorms, eat together in the cafeteria, and gather for SUUSI-wide traditions like the Banner Parade, Ingathering, and Community Time. Shared spaces—from dorm lounges and hallways to the Artisans Bazaar, bookstore, Common Ground Café, and Pair-a-Dice (our board game room)—offer countless ways to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones.

Shared care and responsibility

Community means caring for one another. SUUSI operates with a shared mission and covenant that guide how we show up together, including collective responsibility around health and safety. In light of COVID and other health considerations, we ask all participants to review our Health FAQ to understand how SUUSI supports community wellbeing.

Beautifully diverse, by design

No two SUUSI experiences are the same. Participants build their own schedules based on their interests, energy, and needs. Whether your spirit is replenished through worship with our Nurture staff, time in nature, creative or philosophical workshops, music and late-night activities, or intergenerational programming, there’s space for your way of being.

We offer a range of housing options—including Family, Co-op, Teen, and Young Adult dorms—each with distinct benefits and guidelines, as well as self-organized housing groups. Our cafeteria accommodates a wide variety of dietary needs and preferences.

New to SUUSI? We’ve got you. Dedicated newcomer staff and programming help first-time SUUSI-ites feel oriented, supported, and at home.

Welcoming the full spectrum of humanity

SUUSI actively celebrates the diversity of human experience. Through accessibility and DEI-focused staff, programming, and policies, we work to ensure SUUSI is welcoming and supportive for all. Clear policies balance freedom and protection for children, teens, and middlers, alongside a robust Anti-Harassment Policy and additional supports for those who need extra care.

Support is always available, with a 24/7 Helpline and a Minister on call throughout the week.

Made by all of us

SUUSI is 100% volunteer-run, guided by a board elected annually by the community—including youth members. Every decision is made by people who love SUUSI and believe it can always grow and improve. If you have ideas, want to get involved, or are interested in staffing or volunteering, we welcome your energy and participation.
